Psychiatry/Medication
Springfield Behavioral of Pennsylvania offers psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to all ages. Research indicates that medication, in conjunction with therapy, can be effective in managing emotional difficulties. Our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners work closely with you and your therapist to determine the best course of treatment to achieve the most optimum outcome.
Our medical providers also offer genetic testing (GeneSightRx) to help determine which medications may provide the best treatment for clients. The testing involves rubbing a cotton swab on the inside of your mouth and sending the results to a lab to be analyzed to determine how your genetic makeup can affect your response to medications. This information is used by our medical providers to help determine which medication is best suited for you. This can eliminate the need to experiment with different medications in order to find the best one. Currently, there are 3 tests available which can provide information in prescribing the best medication based on genetic makeup. The three tests are:
Psychotropics: This test helps psychiatrists to evaluate medications commonly prescribed to treat behavioral health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
ADHD: This test helps in selecting medications commonly prescribed to treat ADHD.
Analgesic: This test helps to select medications prescribed to treat chronic pain.
The cost for this test is based on income and whether the client has in-network or out-of-network coverage. The company which provides the service for us has agreed to limit the maximum charge for the evaluation.
